WASHINGTON (AP) In court , all four major U.S. sports leagues are fighting New Jersey’s challenge to the federal ban on sports gambling, which the Supreme Court will hear next week.

Outside of court, leaders of three of the four leagues have made public comments that suggest they wouldn’t mind losing the case. Only the NFL has been steadfast in its opposition to gambling, a stance that critics see as hypocritical, especially as the Raiders plan a move to a billion-dollar stadium just off the Las Vegas Strip.

As the Supreme Court prepares to hear a case that could lead to the federal ban on sports betting being struck down, the leagues are hedging their bets – preparing for a future of expanded gambling and hoping to have a say in how legalization takes effect.
Article continues below ...
The NBA and Major League Baseball see gambling as something that could enhance fan interest and open up new revenue opportunities. However, the leagues insist that appropriate regulations should be put in place to prevent corruption- something that a court ruling in New Jersey’s favor wouldn’t do, at least not right away.

Much has changed since 2012, when the leagues and the NCAA sued New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie to stop him from legalizing sports betting at the casinos and racetracks in his state. At the time, MLB and the NBA were led by old-school commissioners who bore the scars of gambling scandals in their leagues, including Pete Rose in baseball and referee Tim Donaghy in basketball. Baseball’s Bud Selig said in a deposition that gambling was ”evil Cheap Paul Worrilow Jersey , creates doubt and destroys your sport.”

Selig and the NBA’s David Stern have since been replaced, respectively, by Rob Manfred and Adam Silver, both of whom have taken a fresh look at gambling.

Silver argued three years ago in a New York Times op-ed that sports gambling should be legalized. Manfred said earlier this year that gambling ”can be a form of fan engagement, it can fuel the popularity of a sport” – and he raised the prospect of people betting during games on whether the next pitch will be a strike. He’s also said MLB wants a seat at the table if Congress considers legalization.

NHL commissioner Gary Bettman has said gambling isn’t a major concern because so little money is wagered on hockey compared to other sports. The NHL this season became the first major U.S. league to place a franchise in Las Vegas, where sports gambling is legal, and the NFL will follow in 2019. For the past several years, the NFL has also played games in London, where people can bet on sports online. Commissioner Roger Goodell has conceded that his position on the issue has ”evolved.”

”I think there are multiple signs of the sports leagues, including the NFL, taking a fresh look at this issue. You don’t place a team in Nevada Cheap Kendall Wright Jersey , in Las Vegas, without an understanding that the issue is changing. Frankly, you don’t play games in Wembley Stadium, where most of the people in the stands are betting on their phones during the game, without an understanding that things are changing,” Geoff Freeman, CEO of the American Gaming Association, told The Associated Press. ”For those that want to see sports betting, the trajectory is in their favor.”

The leagues have also embraced fantasy sports, which Goodell has argued is not gambling because players win based on the performance of individual athletes, not the outcome of games. Rep. Frank Pallone Seahawks Byron Maxwell Jersey , a New Jersey Democrat and a longtime proponent of legalized sports betting, doesn’t buy that distinction.

”The NFL teams have invested in daily fantasy sports even though the NFL itself hasn’t. It’s just so inconsistent,” Pallone said. ”How do you make the case and say that’s not gambling?”

New Jersey is challenging the constitutionality of the federal ban on sports betting that Congress approved in 1992. The ban only allowed sports betting in the four states that had previously authorized it, and only Nevada’s law at the time allowed bets on individual games. In Delaware, casinos offer parlay bets on NFL games.

”I go through Delaware and they allow it, and I come to my own state and they’re not allowed to do it. It’s just ridiculous,” Pallone told AP. ”I think there’s a good chance that the court is going to say you can’t say to one state they can have sports betting and another state that they can’t, and then dictate what state has what.”

Opponents maintain that state-sponsored gambling preys on vulnerable people and creates a variety of social ills. A coalition of anti-gambling and religious groups argued in a brief that legalized gambling would open the door for casino companies to further ”target and exploit the financially desperate, exacerbate crime, cultivate addiction, and force even those citizens who rarely or never gamble to foot the bill for the enormous social costs and state budget problems they leave behind.”

While legal sports books could entice more people to place bets Cheap J'Mon Moore Jersey , the practice is already widespread. The AGA estimates that Americans bet $150 billion on sports annually, and only 3 percent of those bets are made legally.

The technology that allows more people to place bets has also enabled data collection that makes game-fixing more difficult because suspicious betting patterns can be seen in real time. With most pro players making millions, it’s unlikely they would risk careers and jail by throwing games.
Game-fixing is much easier to stop and prosecute in countries with legal betting than in places without it, said Andreas Krannich, an executive at Sportradar, a London-based gambling security firm. EAST RUTHERFORD Cheap Johnny Townsend Jersey , N.J. (AP) A seemingly happy Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie has returned to the New York Giants and is accepting the blame for a blowup with coach Ben McAdoo that led to a one-game suspension.

The cornerback practiced with the team on Wednesday for the first time since being suspended indefinitely a week ago after leaving the team headquarters before practice. The Giants reinstated the 10-year veteran Tuesday after he spoke with McAdoo.

The 31-year-old, who joined the Giants in 2014, insisted he mishandled the events leading to his suspension, both in how he acted during a game against the Chargers on Oct. 8 and two days later when McAdoo told him he would be inactive for this past weekend’s game in Denver, which the Giants won despite injuries and the suspension.
Article continues below ...
Rodgers-Cromartie, who had started three of the first five games and led the team in interceptions with six last season, said he never asked to be traded after being suspended.

”To be honest, coach called me up and he said some things and I kind of didn’t agree with it and I handled it the wrong way,” Rodgers-Cromartie said after practice.

”At the end of the day , that’s on me. So the suspension, I take that. All I can do is try to work back to get in good grace with the guys. I’m just glad that they didn’t let this turn them from me and they accepted me and I’m just back working, man.”

Teammates were happy to see the popular Rodgers-Cromartie back, and they even teased him after the workout.

”Tell them about the suspension,” defensive tackle Damon `Snacks’ Harrison shouted from the other side of the locker as `DRC’ was surrounded by reporters.

Rodgers-Cromartie could not help but laugh.

”Snacks can say what he wants to say,” Rodgers-Cromartie said. ”When I first walked in, he was the first one to jump up and down and hug me. So them boys definitely welcomed me back with open arms and that definitely, definitely made me feel good.”

Rodgers-Cromartie said his problems started in the game against the Chargers. He tweaked something in a foot covering a deep pass and went to the sideline.

During the second half, the coaches kept him out of the game because of concern over his foot. He felt he could play.

”I get mad. I’m a competitor ,” Rodgers-Cromartie said. ”I like to be out there with my guys out there. I did get tweaked and there was a misunderstanding.”

He got even angrier a couple of days later when McAdoo told him he would be inactive for this past Sunday’s game against Denver. He was so angry he cleaned out his locker.

”I’m dramatic, man. I’m crazy,” said Rodgers-Cromartie, who watched the Giants-Broncos game in Tennessee.

”I can’t help that. I do stuff over the top, man. I apologized. I handled it wrong, but I’m good, baby. I’m back, baby, that’s all that matters.”

Rodgers-Cromartie said he respected the way McAdoo handled things.

”I told him at the end of the day Patriots Troy Niklas Jersey , you’re going to know if I’m mad,” the player said. ”I’m going to come back in here and let you know. I wear my emotions on my sleeves, man. But I told him, I messed up and I understand that, and as a coach, you got to do what you got to do. Whatever the consequence is, I have to accept that and go on from there.”

NOTES: Eli Apple, who started at cornerback in Rodgers-Cromartie’s absence, was excused from practice for personal reasons. McAdoo expects him back on Thursday. LB Jonathan Casillas (neck) Ravens Robert Griffin III Jersey , G John Jerry (tooth), LB Calvin Munson (quad) and C Weston Richburg (concussion) did not practice. S Landon Collins (ankle), RB Paul Perkins (ribs), WR Sterling Shepard (ankle) and DE Olivier Vernon (ankle) were limited. … PK Aldrick Rosas said his get-off time was a little slow and there was some penetration on his FG attempt that was blocked Sunday.

EAST RUTHERFORD Patriots Troy Niklas Jersey , N.J. (AP) Cam Newton wanted to take a few hours to relish the Carolina Panthers’ latest win and then start focusing on their next game.

After all, they deserved to celebrate this one a little bit, especially after how the defense and special teams came through in the fourth quarter of a 35-27 victory over the New York Jets on Sunday.

”To have the guys pick it up and do things that they needed to on defense and on special teams,” coach Ron Rivera said, ”it was a big boost to the offense.”

But, up next are the New Orleans Saints for first place in the NFC South.

”Right now, we just have to debrief from this game and hopefully (begin) getting prepared for our next opponent, which is the Saints,” Newton said. ”Nothing has changed Cheap Pernell McPhee Jersey , and it’s just a great matchup that we’re looking forward to.”

The Panthers have won four straight to improve to 8-3. They’re now tied with the Saints for the top spot in the division after New Orleans fell 26-20 against the Los Angeles Rams. That ended an eight-game winning streak for Drew Brees and the Saints, whom the Panthers are all too familiar with.

”They’re good,” linebacker Luke Kuechly said. ”There’s a reason they’re like that. There’s a reason Drew has been slinging the ball as long as he has – because he’s good. He’s good in that system and they’re good in the dome.

”We’ve got our work cut out for us.”

The Saints might be saying the same about the Panthers, who overcame a fourth-quarter deficit to send the Jets to their fifth loss in six games.

Kuechly returned a fumble 34 yards for a touchdown and Kaelin Clay had a 60-yard punt return for a score, capping a stunning swing in the fourth quarter.

”It wasn’t a blockbuster outing offensively for us, statistics-wise,” Newton said. ”But at the end of the day, we found ways to win the football game.”

This one turned in a span of 2 minutes, 11 seconds on mistakes by the Jets – and the Panthers taking advantage.

First Authentic Edinson Volquez Jersey , Kuechly scooped up a fumble by Josh McCown , who was sacked by Wes Horton and had the ball slip out of his hand as he was about to throw, and rumbled to the end zone for a touchdown. Newton then hurdled linebacker Jordan Jenkins for the 2-point conversion to give the Panthers a 26-20 lead with 12:05 left.

After New York’s next drive stalled, the Jets were forced to punt. Clay fielded Lachlan Edwards’ kick and spun out of a tackle attempt and sped into the end zone. Newton’s pass on the 2-point conversion fell short, but Carolina was suddenly up 32-20 with 9:54 remaining.

”We didn’t panic,” Clay said. ”The game is never over. We just kept playing and we made plays.”

Here are some other things to know about the Panthers’ win over the Jets:

The Panthers are hoping to have tight end Greg Olsen against the Saints after he left with a foot injury in the second half and didn’t return.

Olsen had missed the previous eight games with a broken foot, but came back Sunday. He had one catch for 10 yards before leaving in the third quarter.

”I felt fine,” Olsen said. ”It just got a little sore. It flared up. I went back out and played a little bit, but we just thought it would be best to live to play another day.”

The Jets’ playoff hopes went from slim to highly unlikely with another fourth-quarter collapse. Todd Bowles’ team has five losses in its past six games – and have blown leads in the final 15 minutes of three of those defeats , with the latest coming against the Panthers .

”It just sucks, bro,” McCown said. ”I mean, I don’t know. It sucks. It’s frustrating.”

They also blew fourth-quarter advantages in losses to Miami and Atlanta, games in which it appeared the Jets were on their way to victories.

”It’s been a fourth-quarter problem the whole year,” Bowles said.

Carolina ran for 145 yards on 33 attempts, averaging a respectable 4.4 yards per carry. That would be satisfying for most teams, but the Panthers came in having run for more than 200 yards in their past two games – a first for the franchise.

Rookie Christian McCaffrey led the way with 62 yards on seven carries, but 40 of those came on one play.

The big plays by Kuechly and Clay marked the second time in Panthers history that they had two returns for touchdowns in the fourth quarter of a game Authentic DJ Moore Jersey , and the first time since the franchise’s inaugural season in 1995 against Chicago.

Clay had Carolina’s first punt return for a score since 2014, and he received a game ball from Rivera.

”Guys have been right on the cusp of breaking and making a play,” Rivera said. ”I gave him an opportunity to break the team down and it was good. He earned it and he deserved it.”

Second-year receiver Robby Anderson has become a scoring machine for the Jets with a TD in each of his past five games. He had two in this one, a 33-yard grab and a 54-yarder.

Anderson finished with six catches for a career-high 146 yards, and lobbied for Pro Bowl votes to TV cameras after his second score – something that didn’t sit well with Bowles.

”I was just excited,” Anderson said. ”I wasn’t trying to come off in a bad way.”

ENGLEWOOD Bengals Preston Brown Jersey , Colo. (AP) Denver Broncos coach Vance Joseph has conceded the postseason is lost but he won’t give up on the last four games of the regular season.

The rookie coach said the Broncos haven’t quit despite an eight-game losing streak.

”I don’t believe that at all. I always watch the last five to 10 plays, and I show those guys those plays and I show them the guys flying around,” Joseph said Monday. ”That’s proof that guys are still playing to win. It’s a tough sport not to go out and play full speed because you can get hurt doing it. The guys we put on the field are trying to win football games. No one has given up by how they’ve worked all week in practice.”
Article continues below ...
The Broncos started 3-1 but have since dropped to 3-9. They are one loss from tying the franchise record for most consecutive losses in a season with the New York Jets coming to town Sunday. The club record for most consecutive losses is 11, set over the 1963 and `64 seasons.

Sunday’s 35-9 loss in Miami was the third time in five weeks the Broncos have lost by 25 or more points and it has them looking beyond this season. The last four games have turned into an audition for next year for many players or an opportunity to impress another coaching staff.

”Everyone’s going to be evaluated Cheap Courtland Sutton Jersey , everyone knows that, players and coaches alike,” safety Justin Simmons said. ”When it comes down to it, it’s just pride. You don’t want to go out there and put bad film out there , bad tape for other coaches to see. It’s a business. Whether you stay here or go somewhere else you want to make sure that you put yourself in the best possible situation.”

Simmons’ interception return for a touchdown Sunday was one of the few highlights for the Broncos. They committed nine penalties, including a delay of game on a kickoff that Joseph didn’t recall in his postgame press conference.

Quarterback Trevor Siemian was 19 of 41 with three interceptions and was off target on many of his throws in his first start since being replaced following a loss at Kansas City on Oct. 30. Center Matt Paradis hiked the ball over Siemian’s head and through the end zone for a safety, and punt returner Isaiah McKenzie’s fumble – his sixth muffed punt of the season – led to a second safety for Miami for the final points of the game.

Joseph announced Siemian will be the starter against the Jets but said McKenzie, who was inactive for two weeks after mishandling two punts against New England on Nov. 12 Authentic Logan Cooke Jersey , will not return punts the rest of the season. Jordan Taylor will handle return duties against New York.

Joseph defended his decision to put McKenzie back on punts against the Dolphins despite his troubles on special teams. Three of his six muffed punts have led to scores.

”He’s our punt returner. With the ball in his hands he’s a special returner. Obviously, he’s had trouble catching the ball and taking care of the football,” Joseph said. ”I thought, personally 49ers Jonathan Cooper Jersey , two weeks would help him overcome that. That wasn’t so. He needs more time. I’m not giving up on Isaiah. He was drafted to be our punt returner, he’s averaged over 10 yards a punt return when he has secured the football, so I’m not down on him. He’s a young player.”

LOS ANGELES — The Los Angeles Kings are facing a must-win scenario in Game 3 of their first-round Stanley Cup Playoffs series against the Vegas Golden Knights at Staples Center on Sunday night.

The Kings wasted a record-setting performance by goaltender Jonathan Quick in their 2-1 double-overtime loss Friday night at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. With the Kings down three of their regular defenseman including Drew Doughty Authentic Korey Toomer Jersey , who was suspended for a hit on Vegas’ William Carrier in Game 1, Quick stopped 54 shots to set a franchise record for most saves in a playoff game.

It was all for naught as Erik Haula ended the match at 15:23 of the second overtime to give Vegas a 2-0 series lead. Paul La Due registered his first career playoff goal with a power play tally for Los Angeles.
Article continues below ...
Despite entering the series with an advantage at the center position with veterans Anze Kopitar and Jeff Carter, Los Angeles has been stifled by the Golden Knights tenacity and speed. Vegas has prevented traffic in front of goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury, allowing him to see the Kings’ attempts, limiting the number of dangerous opportunities at the Golden Knights net.

Fleury has stopped 58 of 59 shots Broncos Courtland Sutton Jersey , a statistic that if maintained will lead Vegas into the next round.

Los Angeles coach John Stevens minimized the tough double-overtime loss by saying his team now has to replicate what Vegas did in winning its first two home games.

“There’s momentum in a series,” Stevens said. “You can lose 7-0 the first night like the Philadelphia Flyers did and come back to win and it’s still 1-1. They won two games at home, a lot of people would say they’re supposed to win at home.

“Vegas has been a good team at home all year, so now we get to go home and get to work. It’s not devastating. We come in here to win a hockey game and we didn’t win. Because of double overtime, you just expend a lot of energy. It doesn’t matter if you win in regulation or in quadruple overtime. It still counts as one.”

Carter knows it is no easy task to beat the Golden Knights , who resemble far more like a Stanley Cup contender than the expansion team they are.

“They are a speedy, highly skilled team,” Carter said. “They have no holes in their games and we need to be far better to create chances.”

The Kings will be boosted by the return of the former Norris Trophy winner Doughty and a possible return by another veteran defenseman in Jake Muzzin, who missed the first two games with an upper-body injury.

With Vegas in command of the series, coach Gerard Gallant expects Los Angeles’ best game of the series as his team attempts to put a stranglehold on their inaugural postseason series and wonders what effect the double-overtime affair will have on both teams.

“The Kings are going to come out real hard Authentic Kyzir White Jersey ,” Gallant said. “I don’t know what Game 2 is going to take out of both teams. I don’t think the pace will be quite the same as it was because the guys are pretty tired and beat up from five periods of hockey on Friday. They are going back to their building and I am sure they are going to come out hard and play real hard. Los Angeles is a great hockey team. It’s a great series so far.”

Haula, whose game-winning goal was his first career overtime score, mapped out the strategy in the hopes of moving one win away from a series victory Sunday night.

“We just keep playing the same way,” Haula said. “We did our job at home and now we go there and go to their building. It’s going to be harder. They are going to be better and we know that. We have to be better and it’s going to be a grind for sure. They are going to come out really hard in their home building and that’s what you can expect. We have to be a little bit better again.”

Golden Knights defenseman John Merrill said he believes if his team maintains the style of play that has been problematic for Los Angeles, his team can emerge with a third straight win.

“We have done a lot of good things in the first two games of the series Authentic Daryl Worley Jersey ,” Merrill said. “We are a fast team and when we have everyone skating it is a very good thing for us. We need to continue to do the things that helped us win and add a little more to it.”Obrazek

ST. LOUIS (AP) Carter Hutton didn’t lose any sleep after getting pulled from his previous game.

”No Authentic Vincent Trocheck Jersey , I’m all good, believe me,” the St. Louis Blues goalie said. ”You never want to lose, but you never want to have that happy attitude, either. This game, especially this position, will eat you up if you let things. You hold things inside and then you let it eat away at you.

”You have to process it and move on.”
Article continues below ...
Hutton did just that, making 25 saves for his 10th career shutout as the Blues got goals from Vladimir Sobotka and Vladimir Tarasenko in a 3-0 victory over the struggling Ottawa Senators on Tuesday night.

Brayden Schenn Raiders Kolton Miller Jersey , who also had an assist, added an empty-net goal at 17:34 of the third period. It was his 20th goal of the season.

The game was a bounce-back effort for Hutton, yanked after giving up three goals on 12 shots in Saturday’s 5-2 loss to Arizona.

He deflected praise for his performance Tuesday and called it a team win.

”We had a locker room full of angry players, frustrated,” Hutton said. ”We talked about it. It’s one thing to lose – it’s hard to win in this league and you’re going to lose games – but it’s the way you lose sometimes.

”We weren’t happy about that and I think the message is clear. We stepped up to the plate here tonight and played a great hockey game.”

Hutton, normally the Blues’ backup, started for the fourth consecutive game and eighth in the last 10. He earned his second shutout this season.

His play made coach Mike Yeo’s decision to stay with him pay off.

”He was real good,” Yeo said. ”I’m glad that we gave a better performance in front of him. His puck play was real strong.”

The Blues have earned at least one point in 11 of their last 12 games against Ottawa (7-1-4). St. Louis had lost four straight home games to the Senators before snapping that skid.

The loss was Ottawa’s fourth in a row overall.

The Blues’ first goal came when Schenn hit Sobotka in stride. Sobotka snapped a wrist shot that defenseman Cody Ceci could not block. The puck hit the skate of Ottawa goalie Craig Anderson Titans Rashaan Evans Jersey , who faced 38 shots in all, and caromed in at 16:21 for a 1-0 lead in the first period.

”That was a great pass,” Sobotka said. ”There was nothing I could do there but shoot it. I just took the shot and it went in.”

Yeo was impressed.

”He’s got a good shot, no question,” the coach said. ”He was engaged in this game from the very beginning.”

St. Louis made it 2-0 when Tarasenko ripped a slap shot for his 21st goal at 6:10 of the third.

Tarasenko had just jumped onto the ice when the puck came to him along the boards. Colton Parayko took a shot from the right side that Anderson blocked. The puck slid to Tarasenko, who pounced on it for the goal.

”I think it landed flat, too, which was nice Eagles Markus Wheaton Jersey ,” Parayko said. ”He’s got quite the shot, so give it to him any way you can. It was a good spot, I guess.”

It was Parayko’s 20th assist. He is the first defenseman in team history with 20 or more assists in his first three seasons.

Tarasenko has points in six straight games against Ottawa, with five goals and two assists.

A double minor to Robert Bortuzzo for high-sticking gave Ottawa a four-minute power play in the second. The Senators managed just two shots on goal.

”I think we could have definitely done better on our power play in the four minutes we had,” coach Guy Boucher said. ”They defend well. You’ve got to give credit to the opponent and their hard work.”

Matt Duchene took a puck to the face in the third period.

”He’s been in the infirmary the whole time now, so they are working on him,” Boucher said. ”It wasn’t pretty. You get a puck in the face and it’s surely not what you want, but it’s hockey.”

WINNIPEG , Manitoba (AP) The Vegas Golden Knights have already made some NHL history. They’re far from finished with what they want to accomplish this season.

David Perron scored 3:57 into overtime to lead Vegas past the Winnipeg Jets 3-2 on Thursday night for the Golden Knights’ 34th victory, the most by an NHL expansion team in its debut season. They surpassed the mark set by both Florida and Anaheim in the 1993-94 season.

”It doesn’t mean a whole lot right now, to be honest with you,” said Gerard Gallant, who has coached his team to a Western Conference-leading 34-12-4 record, one point back of league-best Tampa Bay.

The Jets had the puck rolling in the crease three times in the extra period, but it couldn’t get it into the net. Perron then fired a high shot past Connor Hellebuyck to win it.

”We’re just trying to battle and get two points again every night and that’s what we’re trying to do Patriots Adrian Clayborn Jersey ,” Gallant said. ”But you know, at the end of the season we’ll look at it and be happy, I’m sure.”

Winnipeg’s Kyle Connor had tied it with a high shot to Marc-Andre Fleury’s glove side with 2:36 left in the third period. Joel Armia also had a goal and one assist for Winnipeg.

Hellebuyck made 28 saves for the Jets (30-13-9), who were trying to set a franchise record with their eighth straight home win.

Fleury stopped 24 shots for Vegas (34-12-4). It was his 389th win, putting him into a tie for 13th among NHL goaltenders.

”That’s (Fleury) for you right there. He loves those kinds of moments,” Perron said of the overtime scrambles. ”I don’t know how the puck stayed out, but he found a way to keep it out.”

Reilly Smith had a short-handed goal and Erik Haula scored a controversial goal on the power play for Vegas.

Haula’s go-ahead goal came with 1:30 left in the second period. Golden Knights forward James Neal was in front of Winnipeg’s net and broke his stick with a swing to Hellebuyck’s mask. The puck was under the netminder and Haula reached in his stick from the other side of the crease and knocked it in.

The Bell MTS Place crowd started screaming and Winnipeg coach Paul Maurice challenged for goaltender interference Authentic Bryce Petty Jersey , but a review upheld the goal. The NHL Situation Room released an explanation stating no infraction had occurred.

”What (the official) said is the puck wasn’t covered, it was laying in the crease, so the guy was allowed to take a two-hand smack to my face,” Hellebuyck said. ”I don’t understand it. I think it’s a terrible call. You would think the video replay is there for that reason.”

It had Jets captain Blake Wheeler frustrated, too.

”The explanation was that the puck was behind the goalie, which gives their player the right to break his stick over (Hellebuyck’s) head,” Wheeler said. ”There’s been an outcry with the league to get this right. We were told before the game that it was going to be a little bit cleaner , they were going to be looking for goalie interference. It’s the first time I’ve seen a guy break a stick over a goalie’s head.”

Maurice also questioned the explanation.

”I don’t know how there would be an event that would be more egregious with goaltender interference, just beyond the spirit of the rule,” Maurice said. ”The idea that a guy could clean a goalie out would be goalie interference, but a two-hand to the head wouldn’t. What are we going to do with our goalies now? The puck’s loose in the crease, so swing away?”

Winnipeg led 1-0 after the first period, thanks to a gaffe by Fleury. The veteran goalie went behind the net to get the puck, but the Jets’ Matt Hendricks stole it and passed it out to Armia Cheap Logan Woodside Jersey , who was in front of the empty net to score his 10th of the season.

Winnipeg got its second power play of the game midway through the second, but the visitors’ pressuring penalty kill led to Smith’s tying goal. Smith stole the puck from Jets captain Blake Wheeler inside Winnipeg’s blue line and beat Hellebuyck with a high shot on the breakaway at 12:10.

Haula’s goal came during the visitors’ first power play of the game. The goal extended Haula’s point streak to seven games, with four goals and five assists.

Connor scored his 17th goal with 2:36 on a pass from the boards by Armia.

NOTES: Perron also had an assist for Vegas, giving him a seven-game point streak with four goals and six helpers. … Vegas outshot the Jets 27-25 going into overtime.

BLOOMINGTON Steelers Terrell Edmunds Jersey , Minn. (AP) Bill Belichick’s impressive resume makes it easy for the five-time championship head coach to mandate that players check their egos before joining the New England Patriots.

Doug Pederson didn’t have a hard sell, either.

The Philadelphia Eagles are an unselfish group that prioritizes winning over personal accomplishments. It’s a major reason why the Eagles (15-3) are playing the Patriots (15-3) in the Super Bowl on Sunday.

”It’s a group that doesn’t really care who gets the ball. The bottom line is trying to win the game,” Pederson said. ”I didn’t have to sell it too much.”

Pederson was 7-9 last year in his rookie season as head coach but has guided the Eagles from worst to first in search of the franchise’s first NFL title since 1960. He found a way to blend a young locker room with a mix of accomplished veterans.

The team added veteran receivers Alshon Jeffrey and Torrey Smith, running backs LeGarrette Blount and Jay Ajayi Authentic Derrius Guice Jersey , defensive linemen Chris Long and Tim Jernigan and defensive backs Ronald Darby, Patrick Robinson and Corey Graham.

”I can remember this team showing up in April and talking about being at this place, talking about our dreams, aspirations and focusing on a grind ,” safety Malcolm Jenkins said.

”Guys being unselfish, adding guys along the way that added to the team and continued to push, and every time we won and had some success – we even had some adversity – the team believed more and more. It’s been awesome to be a part of.”

Blount led the NFL with 18 touchdowns rushing and earned his second Super Bowl ring last season in New England. He didn’t get a carry in a loss at Kansas City in Week 2 and never complained. Same with Jeffery, who went from No. 1 receiver in Chicago to being one of the guys in Philadelphia.

”We couldn’t care less how many catches or how many carries or how many yards any one guy has Authentic Sergei Bobrovsky Jersey ,” Blount said. ”We all have one common goal in hand. We all have one thing that we all want more than anything. You can’t be selfish when everybody has one common goal because you have to make sacrifices for the better of the team. We’ve done that and it’s gotten us this far.”

Pederson set the tone and Carson Wentz carried it out with his team-first attitude and that filtered down the roster.

”He’s the most humble guy you come across,” Pederson said. ”He’ll give it right back to the team.”

It was a smooth transition to Nick Foles after Wentz got hurt. Foles also is a respected leader who leads by example. It’s not a coincidence the Eagles sought this type of player.

”This is the most selfless team I’ve ever been around,” Pro Bowl tight end Zach Ertz said. ”Guys don’t care about stats. They only care about winning. Doug is the best coach I’ve been around in managing players. He lets us show our personalities and if he needs to talk to somebody, he does it quietly and in a mild-mannered way. His selfless leadership is a big reason we’re here.”

The team is one of the closest-knit groups in the league and players genuinely care about each other and spent plenty of time together.

”When you see guys hanging out with players from other position groups Authentic Neil Walker Jersey , it’s special,” defensive tackle Fletcher Cox said. ”I would go eat dinner with Donnie Jones. You don’t see a guy hanging out with a punter.”

If the Eagles win a few championships, perhaps the standard Pederson has set will eventually become similar to Belichick’s Patriot Way. They have to get the first win first.
